Are you a triple threat: Actor, Singer, or MUSICIAN? The special skill of playing an instrument as an actor will most certainly come in handy. From the Broadway revival of “Sweeney Todd” to “Once” to “Spongebob Squarepants”, actors are playing instruments onstage. In this masterclass, you can bring your guitar, uke, play the piano (we’ll have for you in the room), or any other instrument you can play while singing. Nick Cearley and Sydney Shepherd out of NYC, will coach songs and talk about what is needed to prepare for an actor-musician audition and show.

Date: November 17, 2022
Times: 6:30-8:30pm
Ages: 13 through Adult
Cost: $60 Sign up here

Last #FATF22 Show of the Season: Zion Lion

Events

Please give a warm welcome to our final Fridays at the Fountain performers: Zion Lion!

Then meet us at the Brooks Memorial Fountain, August 12th – 7pm EST, for the last FATF show of the season. Everyone is welcome. Bring your own chair or blanket to keep it comfy.

Zion Lion is the “baddest band” to hit the Kalamazoo music scene. The members are a combination of several bands from the Kalamazoo area that crossed each other’s path along the way and decided to form what we believe to be the right mix of reggae, African zouk, mucosa, zoukous and some Afro-latin influences. Some of the members have had the honor of opening and sharing the stage with local, national and international reggae artists such as Freddie McGreggor, Pato Batun, Winston Jarrett, Culture, Beenie Man, Lucky Dube, Mikey Dread and the Meditations.

Coming Up: The Sam Luna Band!

Events

Kicking off our third Fridays at the Fountain performance is: The Sam Luna Band! Join us for family fun at the fountain – July 29 at 7pm EST! Please bring your own chair or blanket.

Sam Luna is a multi-instrumentalist from Battle Creek, MI. Frontman Sam Luna and guitar player Sage Castleberry have been best friends since middle school, and got their musical start in high school performing on a downtown Battle Creek sidewalk in 2015. They can be seen at shows across southwest Michigan playing Sam’s released music, and covers anyone would enjoy. Sam is best known for his ever-growing set of originals, along with radio hits from decades all the way back to the 60’s. Crowd pleasers are enjoyed by all ages, as Sam and his band have an enjoyable, classic, modern sound.

Next at FATF: Norman Light (& Friends)!

Events

Welcoming back a Fridays at the Fountain favorite: Norman Light (& Friends)! Bring the whole family and head to Brooks Memorial Fountain for a live performance – July 15 at 7pm EST. Please bring your own chair or blanket.

Norman Light is a Marshall local that has performed at FATF previously with Chameleon and Rae of Light, but this will be a new vibe! With Norman Light & Friends the only thing guaranteed is that there’ll be a night of good music, with fantastic musicians. “Which” musicians is the question! Maybe a singer-friend will show up? Maybe a harmonica player will step-in? Maybe a keyboard player will play that solo you always loved? Playing songs that everyone knows from a wide range of genres, every show brings a different line-up that makes each show unique and memorable.

YPC & BluFish: The Think Tank

Events

Ready to throw some ideas in the Think Tank? Round two of our new event series is coming up soon, so clear that calendar and bring your creative ideas and energy to Schuler’s Signature Room, July 12th, from 5:30pm to 7pm. Cash bar, light snacks, great company!

Powered by you, supported by BluFish, ignited by the Youngish Professionals! Join us for a new series, The Think Tank, and share your energy and ideas on how to continue to elevate all things Marshall. At each event, we’ll ask you to throw some ideas into the fish bowl on how to make Marshall THE small town in Michigan to live, work, and/or play. From there, we’ll start pulling them out, diving into discussion, and shedding some light on where we could and should focus our collective energy. Someone once said it takes a village, and we’re betting that smart individuals attended events like this!

Scheduled for 90 minutes, each event will kick-off with some time to mingle and meet new folks, transition into an oh-so-brief presentation of a topic or theme for consideration, and away we’ll go! It’s informal, it’s fun, it’s youngish Marshall at its finest.

BeYounigsh, #ThinkOutsideTheBowl, #ExperienceTheSchulerWay, and #ChooseMarshall.
